2008 Race Season
2007 was a very special year for me racing with the Spoke O’Motion team!  I missed the entire 2006 season due to personal reasons and some knee injury rehabilitation, so there was a big question in my mind as to how I would feel coming back into the O-Cup race scene.  Regaining my fitness, rejoining the fantastic Expert Women racing community, the support from SOM and challenging myself in this healthy, competitive environment helped my achieve my goals – live life to the fullest doing what you love.

This year I have my sights on the O-Cup MTB races but I am also looking at some new 2-wheeled challenges to pursue enroute.  In order for me to be able to rise to these occasions, I have started a “semi-structured” training program.  I say this because for me I need to keep mentally fresh and the mere words ‘structure’ doesn’t help. Cross training has taken care of this over the last few months, including some weight training and lots of outdoor winter activities.  I have also been doing a few indoor spins on the trainer, but the majority of training has been outdoors in the snow.

XC skiing has been a large part of the outdoor training, but this year I tried something new for me - snowshoeing – even competed in a snowshoe race in Collingwood that proved to be quite a challenging and taxing activity. This winter has been a great “snow winter” and focusing on the outdoor snow activities has built up my desire to get onto the bike.

I will have that opportunity as I’ll be spending March Break in the Dominican Republic with my family.  This has been an annual activity (last 6 years to be exact) that includes daily cycling adventures with my local DR friend ‘Max of the Mountain’. By the time we get back, the weather should be getting good around here and it’ll be time to get on the road bike and do some riding.

That being said, I’m really looking forward to getting the new Rocky Mountain Element 90 from Spoke O'Motion so I can get doing what I really love to do……riding my mountain bike!

Looking forward to an exciting 2008 race season.
Hope to see you out there!
