Coaching is about more than getting an email once a week describing what you should be doing. Coaching is about more direction than following words on a page. We haven't crafted our trade by watching YouTube videos.
At Three Ring Performance Training, we deliver hands-on lessons that cover every fundamental. A big focus of this coaching system is to take advantage of group sessions. Currently, most racing/training in Ontario consists of weekly emails listing workouts that athletes are expected to complete on their own.
That style of program suits a mature rider who can either perform alone or adapt workouts to fit local organized events. Our goal is to introduce the younger athletes into our system using group workouts to help them get organized, focussed, and fit while enjoying the social component of a team atmosphere.
Throughout the program, we cover: |
 |
Nutrition |
What to eat while training, what to eat the night before your race, how to prepare yourself on race day, how to nourish yourself for a complete recovery. |
 |
 |
Training |
How many hours per week? What kind of intenstity? What specific exercises? How do I peak for a specific event? How do I recover? How do I build a year-long training plan? A five year plan? |
 |
 |
Cross Training |
Integrate cross country skiiing, snowshoeing, swimming, weight training, hiking, running, all cycling disciplines (road, MTB, bike park, 'cross, singlespeed).
Our goal is to get through the winter with as little "trainer time" as possible. |
 |
 |
Sports Psychology |
Learn what is takes to be a competitor. Learn about the mindset required to bring forth your best effort on race day. These lessons are applicable throughout your life. Get a head start on the competition. |

| Who delivers the goods? |
In short: A Level 1 NCCP coach-in-training, local high school teacher, father of two rambunctious boys, and Ontario Cup Master Expert. Paul Cooney has been tearing up the local and provincial racing scene for the last decade.
Currently a sponsored rider for True North Cycles, Coach Paul has proven on and off the race course to be deliberate in method, precise in execution, and a leader in developing all facets of the athlete. Sport is a journey in spirit and self-discovery as much as physicality. Strategy and mental preparedness go hand-in-hand with Coach Paul's training of the body.

No man is an island, however, and in order to deliver the best possible cycling-specific training regimen Coach Paul has teamed up with nationally-renowned cycling performance expert Peter Glassford. Mr. Glassford is a Level 2 NCCP Coach and his dedicated web site can be found here. Google this man to learn how accomplished his athletes have become. It's an impressive read and a veritable who's who of Canadian amateur cyclists.
No other coaching program in Ontario delivers both the theoretical aspect – through Coach Peter's brilliant programming – and the hands-on delivery from Coach Paul that will improve your strength, refine your cycling technique, and deliver a broad fitness base to grow from. |
